Parenting in the Cyber Age: A Parents’ Guide to Safer Social Networking — 5 Comments

  1. This is a terrifically informative post, and it’s actually not just for parents! The section “Risks and Preventive Measure” has tips that could benefit all of us.

    • Thanks Lori. That’s a good point. I had written the original article in the context of parenting, but the tips are valid for all of us.

  2. This is great advice, Ben, for adults as well as teens. I like the idea of having the computer in an open, shared space. If parents demonstrate that they’ve got nothing to hide when they’re using the Internet, they’re less likely to get resistance when they hold their kids to the same standard. The unfortunate predicament of Rep. Weiner provides a good life lesson for us all: never share photos over the Internet that you wouldn’t want your colleagues in the House of Representatives to see.

    • Hi Andrea!
I think your comments on adults modeling proper behavior are spot on. “Do as I say, not as I do” doesn’t work at any level.
      Ben
